Gerrit Demmink, debater & lawyer in Michigan

His name is Gerrit Demmink and his roots are in Holland. Like many other Dutch families members of these Demmink-line made their home in the state of Michigan. There we find Gerrit Demmink, of Grandville in the Catalogue of the University of Michigan in the list of the college of literature, science and the arts. The man is at college a perfect debater and in 1923 he got his prize.

According to the Michiganensian of 1923 and years thereafter he was a member of the Delta Sigma Rho players club in the Michigan team, who played against teams from other American states in the middle-west.

Debating helped Gerrit in his law-study. We find him as a junior and later as senior-member of The Lawyers Club in Grand Rapids, and in 1929 he was a member of the memorial committee. Nearly a century later we memorize this man, here on this blog.

She is a member of the Schulten zu Aholte-branche with the familyname Demmink in the Netherlands.

Hello dear readers, it is a long time ago when Nigerian scammers, mostly working from internet-cafes in the West, make their victims a millionaire, after when the receivers make 'some' costs for the transfer of the inheritence of a family-member who died somewhere in Africa. This time I show you the death certificate of the non-existing James B. Ahoud. The man lived in a non existing-street in Kara (Togo), and now I am the happy inheritor of his 40% of 4,5 million American dollars. The other 60% is for the mysterious mister Komla, a barrister from Togo, who tries to involve me in this transaction. Look at the certificate, my dead mister Ahoud originates from Germany. Yes, I know that no one with the name Ahoud is a German civilian. Mister Komla, or thatever his name is, thinks he can fool the world. So dear followers, be aware of the 24-Dingen item in this meeting with the internet-world.

# 23 Evaluatie

Een leuke cursus loopt op zijn eind. Onderweg is vooral gesnoven aan diverse communicatiemiddelen, opslag- en verspreidingsmethodes. Vaak waren deze al bekend, maar soms nog verrassend nieuw. Bloggen en de wereld daarachter zijn mij wel bevallen. Commentaar geven op veel van die internet-toepassingen, het wel en wee van min of meer bekende websites analiseren, en daarmee een uitlaatklep biedend aan mijn (on)genoegen werd als prettig ervaren. De relatie met de archiefinstelling was niet altijd scherp te krijgen. Op enkele fronten kunnen bovendien deze instellingen nog grote vorderingen maken, zoals op You Tube (informatiefilms) en het intensiveren van het aantal Twitterberichten, vooral op strategisch interessante momenten (buiten de kantooruren dus).
De cursus leerde mij ook te gaan letten op mijn blog-statistieken. De bespreking van de voorafgaande 22 Dingen leverde me een absolute topper op met # 19 Genealogie 2.0. Maar op plek 2 tot en met 8 komen allemaal privé-berichten voor. Het lezen van cursusblogs is dus duidelijk niet voor het grote publiek, ook al had ik me al in april vindbaar gemaakt voor zoekmachines en had ik een maand eerder reeds mijn eigen handelingen in de statistieken stilgelegd.
Het is mij opgevallen dat enkele cursisten ook de moeite nemen om blogs van anderen te lezen. Dat er weinig op elkaar gereageerd wordt kan ik wel begrijpen. Het Dingen-traject is om allerlei redenen een slagveld vol achterblijvers gebleken. Op zich behoeft de cursus geen verandering. Wel is het zo dat de introducties tot de onderwerpen steeds getoetst moeten worden aan de actualiteit. 23-Archiefdingen was voor mij doorgaans instructief en een aangename manier om langs een aantal internetmogelijkheden te wandelen.

Artists in the family: today Natasja Ahout

No, the spelling is correct, Natasja is a member of the third branche of the Aholt-family. From 1723 to 1860 her family lived as Ahout in the Dutch capital of Amsterdam, and nowadays the descendants are living in the province of North-Brabant. Of course, just like cheese and windmills are cows a trademark of Holland. My distant cousin Natasja once painted these silly beasts, but not only them.
